Surviving The Polar Vortex

Almost every city in America is suffering from cold to freezing temperatures. Luckily, San Diego is not one of them, averaging 70 degrees. While we soak up the sun for you, here are some useful tips on how to stay safe through the blizzard-like temperatures.

Heat Your Home
Don't allow your pipes to freeze and the cold to take over. Keep your heater at a minimum of 65 degrees at all times. This will heat your pipes and combat the freezing temperatures from taking over your home, not to mention keep you warm.

Keep Water Flowing
Open your faucets slightly, allowing them to drip a small amount of water. This will help your water flow consistently, and not freeze. Reuse the water by placing buckets or pots underneath each faucet.

Keep Your Garage Closed
Your garage door is not as insulated as the rest of your home is. Leave the colder air outside by keeping the garage door closed.

Wear thin layers and lots of them
Thin layers are much easier to pile on and take off as you go from extreme temperatures to inside warm homes. A large coat won't allow you the freedom or comfort to add on additional layers. Mittens, beanies, and scarves are also essential to help cover each exposed inch of your skin from the cold.

Save Your Receipts

If your pipes do burst, water does freeze, or something traumatic happens to your home keep receipts of the damages and labor purchased. These receipts are necessary for your home insurance.

If you have any questions on precautions you can make to keep safe during this chilly weather, please call us at (760)471-2200!
