I Am A Good Driver. Why Is My Policy So High?

Ever wonder what affects your auto insurance policy?

You pay close attention as you drive, avoid as many accidents as possible, perform regular maintenance on your vehicle, and pay your bill on time, but why is your policy still so high? Several factors make up your final policy rate, not just your driving record.

  • Do you have a vehicle that is attractive to burglars? Having an attractive vehicle that would draw the attention of a car burglar does affect your policy rate. Your insurance most likely covers break-ins. Therefore, the insurance company does not want a break-in to happen..you don't either. If you have an expensive vehicle or have made after-market additions that have increased the value of the vehicle, make sure you have an alarm installed. Having an alarm installation on your policy will help decrease the rate.

  • Accidents significantly affect your policy. Having an accident, or multiple accidents, on your driving record will increase your policy rate. Dependent upon the number of accidents and the type of accidents you have had, the policy increase can be significant or minor.

  • Age does matter. A new driver, fresh out of the DMV, will have a higher premium than a 45-year old who has been driving for almost 30 years. It is even more vital to pay attention and avoid accidents when you are a young driver, because of the odds. Young drivers are more likely to get into car accidents, increasing their already high rate.

  • How much do you care about your vehicle? If you are driving a beat-up vehicle, that you have little to no care about, you probably don't want the full coverage car insurance that comes with a full premium rate. But, if your car is your baby and you not only want to protect your asset, but the people in and around your vehicle, you will want to choose a higher premium that offers more coverage. The best way to decide what kind of coverage you need is by calling Bob or Harriet Kipper at KIAC Insurance to discuss your options (760) 471-2200.
