Did you file a “SR-1” report after your recent car accident? A SR-1 is a report you are required to fill out after you have been involved in a car accident. Whether or not the accident was your fault, it is mandatory to submit a SR-1 to your local DMV if the property damage was over $750, either parties were injured, or killed.
According to the California DMV, the California Vehicle Code section 16004 (a) states that each driver must submit a Traffic Accident Report to DMV within 10 days. The accident report is required whether or not you were at fault or if the accident occurred on private property. If you fail to submit a report within the 10 day mandated period, the DMV normally sends out a letter of non-compliance to your last reported address.
If you are unsure whether or not an SR-1 form is necessary to submit, call Kipper Insurance today (760)471-2200. Bob and Harriet Kipper are standing by to assist you with all of your auto insurance needs.
